Le Mont-Saint-Michel (English: Saint Michael’s Mount) is a rocky tidal island and a commune in Normandy, France. It is located approximately one kilometers off the country’s north coast, at the mouth of the Couesnon River near Avranches. The population of the island is just 44!
The abbey is a medieval monastary dating back to the 9th century. Many additions and other buildings have been added since. It has been protected as a French monument historique since 1862 and a UNESCOworld heritage site since 1979. There are more than 1.3 million visitors per year!
